Why Tecno-Build®

THE TECNO-BUILD® PROJECT ARISES AT THE END OF THE 20TH CENTURY FROM THE NEED OF ‘MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES’ TO DISPOSE OF HOSPITAL BUILDINGS IN THE MOST INACCESSIBLE, AND HENCE DIFFICULT TO REACH, PLACES IN THE WORLD.

A BUILDING SYSTEM WAS NEEDED THAT COULD BE EASILY TRANSPORTED AND HANDLED ON SITE, BEING EASY AND QUICK TO INSTALL, LONG-LASTING, HYGIENIC AND MAINTENANCE-FREE, WITHOUT THE NEED FOR BUILDING SITES OR SPECIALIZED WORKFORCE. THAT SYSTEM WAS TECNO-BUILD®.

DRAWING ON THE BUILDING SYSTEM USED IN THE PAST FOR STEEL STRUCTURES THAT ARE STILL IN PLACE NOWADAYS, SUCH AS MOST BRIDGES IN THE WORLD (THE MOST FAMOUS OF WHICH ARE THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE, THE GOLDEN GATE AND THE TOWER BRIDGE), THE PATENTED BUILDING SYSTEM TECNO-BUILD® IS MADE ENTIRELY OF STEEL COMPONENTS ASSEMBLED WITH NUTS AND BOLTS.

Bearing Structure

THE BEARING STRUCTURE IS THE PATENTED ELEMENT OF THE TECNO-BUILD® SYSTEM. PATENT FOR INDUSTRIAL INVENTION NO. 0001375672/002474 – 21/12/2006.
THE TECNO-BUILD® PRODUCTION IS RECOGNIZED BY THE EUROPEAN CERTIFICATION CE LABEL (PFC-EN 1090-1)

THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE IS MADE OF OPEN SECTIONS OF PRESSURE-BENT (HOT-ROLLED) GALVANIZED STEEL, 2-3 MM THICK ACCORDING TO THE INTENDED USE.

Only OPEN sections are used because:

  • Galvanization is possible on every single surface (both internal and external) of the sections, thus preventing rust build-up. No hollow sections are used, since these may develop condensation on the outer surfaces, which over time could result in rust build-up and weakening of the structural performance.
  • As sections are not deformable, they can be perfectly coupled, which means that the design structural values can be maintained over time.
  • Hot-rolled galvanizing is the best corrosion-resistant treatment for steel, and therefore it is ideal for sections used in the open air, even when they are exposed to very hard weather conditions.

THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE IS WITHOUT WELDING BECAUSE:

  • Welding would make the structure stiff, thus preventing movement of the welded components – which is essential in the event of an earthquake – and causing breaking of the structure itself. Also for this reason the TECNO-BUILD® bearing structure has a high anti-seismic performance.
  • At welding spots, the section is weaker because its physical/performance features are altered.

THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE IS INDUSTRIALIZED.

  • All components are manufactured by CNC and robot machines ensuring that perfect and high-quality sections are obtained both in terms of dimensioning and of reproducibility over time.

THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE IS MADE OF COMPONENTS WITH MAX. LENGTH 3 M AND MAX. WEIGHT 25 KG.

  • This means that the every single component can be handled by anyone.

TO ASSEMBLE THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE, YOU ONLY NEED ONE KIND OF BOLT (GALVANIZED M10 X 20 – 8.8), ONE KIND OF NUT (SELF-LOCKING GALVANIZED M10), A MONKEY WRENCH (17 MM) AND A LADDER.

  • 8.8 grade bolts are used since they are certified for the assembly of steel structures.

ALL PERIMETER SECTIONS CONSTITUTING THE LOWER BASE AND THE ROOF BASE OF THE TECNO-BUILD®BEARING STRUCTURE INCLUDE HOLLOW SPACES. THIS DESIGN SOLUTION HAS TWO PURPOSES:

  • To allow passage of the hydraulic and electric installations located in the perimeter walls proposed by us, so that they can be positioned wherever necessary.
  • To allow air circulation throughout the structure, thus creating a connection between the walls proposed by us, the air space beneath the floor and the sections themselves. The resulting ‘ventilation’ increases thermal insulation and significantly improves the living comfort, thus preventing the build-up of internal humidity and, as a result, of moulds and bad odour.

THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE IS A MONOLITHIC DESIGN, I.E.:

  • The TECNO-BUILD® structure simply rests on the ground. The ground shall have an acceptable planarity or it shall be prepared accordingly.
  • This means that no foundations or beds are needed, which would require the use of typical worksite equipment.

THE FLOOR IS POSITIONED ON THE PERIMETER LOWER BASE OF THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE, WHICH RESTS ON THE GROUND AND IS 15 CM THICK: AN AIR SPACE OF 15 CM IS THUS CREATED BETWEEN THE FLOOR AND THE UNDERLYING GROUND, INSIDE WHICH THE HYDRAULIC UTILITIES ARE LOCATED.

THE PERIMETER SECTIONS CLOSING THE AIR SPACE ARE DIMENSIONED IN ORDER TO PREVENT ACCESS FOR SMALL ANIMALS, SUCH AS RODENTS, AS WELL AS TO ENSURE AIR RECIRCULATION EVEN UNDER THE FLOOR: IN THIS WAY, THE WHOLE SURFACE OF THE HOUSE (BASE, PERIMETER WALLS AND ROOF) IS ‘VENTILATED’.

THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE IS DESIGNED FOR UP TO TWO FLOORS ABOVE GROUND.

THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE, BEING MADE OF GALVANIZED STEEL, IS 100% RECYCLABLE.

ALL COMPONENTS OF THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE ARE DESIGNED TO BE EASILY TRANSPORTED:

  • All components are max. 3 m long, so that they can be transported in boxes, which are dimensioned to optimize loading into containers.

ADVANTAGES OF THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE AS COMPARED WITH OTHER, MORE WIDELY USED BEARING STRUCTURES:

As compared with wooden bearing structures:

  • It is maintenance-free;
  • It cannot rot;
  • It cannot deteriorate due to the attack of insects or pests;
  • It is not subject to twisting or cracking;

Walls

THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE IS DESIGNED TO BE FITTED OUT WITH ANY KIND OF PERIMETER WALL REQUIRED BY THE CUSTOMER.

IN ORDER TO ENSURE ‘VENTILATION’ OF ALL OUTER SURFACES OF THE CONSTRUCTION – AND THE RELEVANT ADVANTAGES IN TERMS OF LIVING COMFORT AND LACK OF INDOOR HUMIDITY – WE PROPOSE TWO TYPES OF PERIMETER WALLS.

TYPE 1:

The wall consists of:

  • A primary structure made up of a series of frames of pressure-bent, galvanized steel (width: 100 cm; thickness: 6 cm; height: design height of the wall), properly reinforced with cross-beams of pressure-bent, galvanized steel, joined by riveting and without welding; the structure is properly perforated in order to allow air recirculation to and from the neighbouring components of the bearing structure, as well as passage of the components of the hydraulic and electric installations located inside the structure itself.
  • Outside the primary structure, a 12 cm thick, self-bearing, security sandwich panel is installed, consisting of two sheets of pre-painted, galvanized steel, each 0.4 mm thick, with polyurethane insulation between them. The outer (visible) finishing can be chosen by the Customer among various proposals (stone effect, brick effect, plaster effect, etc.).
  • Inside the primary structure a sheet of galvanized steel is installed, completely covering the surface; plasterboard sheets shall be subsequently applied on it, grouted, levelled and painted. Thanks to these two elements, you can securely hang wall units, paintings and fittings wherever you want.
  • The total thickness of the wall is comprised between 19 cm and 21 cm according to the outer finishing chosen by the Customer.
  • This type of wall is high-performing, having a heat transfer coefficient of 0.17 W/m2K, and therefore it is recommended in housing structures where thermal insulation plays a critical role.
  • All wall components are recyclable.

TYPE 2:

  • The wall consists of a series of PVC slats.
  • Each slat has the following dimensions: width: 15 cm; depth: 7 cm; thickness: 3 mm: height: design height.
  • Inside, the slat is divided into six chambers that perform various functions, i.e.:
  • Allowing air passage and, as a result, a high-value ventilation as already discussed.
  • Allowing passage of the hydraulic and electric installations.
  • Allowing to securely hang wall units, paintings and fittings at an U-shaped element of pressure-bent, galvanized steel located in the central chamber of each slat.
  • The wall is obtained by assembling several slats fitted together through pressure or sliding. Thanks to PVC modular elements, the slats can be positioned at edges, and they can also be combined with blind partition walls.
  • This type of wall is most suited when the construction shall be used for initial reception and commercial purposes, especially in case of temporary / seasonal use, i.e. when there is a need to disassemble and reassemble it several times.
  • This type of wall is recommended in constructions where hygiene and sanitization play a vital role; indeed, it is compatible with the use of high-pressure washers.
  • This type of wall has a heat transfer coefficient of 0.69 W/m2K, and therefore it is recommended in commercial constructions (kiosks, toilets, etc.).
  • The wall of PVC slats can be coated both internally and externally with plasterboard sheets and finished according to your wishes.
  • The total thickness of the wall is comprised between 7 cm and 10 cm according to the outer and inner finishing chosen by the Customer.
  • All wall components are recyclable.

Roof

THE TECNO-BUILD® BEARING STRUCTURE IS DESIGNED TO BE FITTED OUT WITH ANY KIND OF ROOF REQUIRED BY THE CUSTOMER.

SECTIONS OF PRESSURE-BENT, GALVANIZED STEEL ABLE TO CONTAIN ANY KIND OF COVERAGE ARE FASTENED TO THE BEARING STRUCTURE BY MEANS OF BOLTS, SO THAT THE ROOF CANNOT BE LIFTED OFF IN CASE OF EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS; THESE SECTIONS HAVE HOLLOW SPACES THAT ENSURE VENTILATION OF THE ROOF. THE HOLLOW SPACES ARE HIDDEN BY GUTTER-SECTIONS OF PRESSURE-BENT, GALVANIZED STEEL.
A SPECIAL SECTION OF PRESSURE-BENT, GALVANIZED STEEL IS POSITIONED ON THE ROOF RIDGE AND ANCHORED FROM THE INSIDE TO THE BEARING STRUCTURE.

IN ORDER TO ALSO ENSURE ‘VENTILATION’ OF THE ROOF AND OF ALL OUTER SURFACES OF THE CONSTRUCTION – AND THE RELEVANT ADVANTAGES IN TERMS OF LIVING COMFORT AND LACK OF INDOOR HUMIDITY – WE PROPOSE THREE TYPES OF ROOF.

TYPE 1:

The roof consists of:

  • A primary structure made up of a series of frames of pressure-bent, galvanized steel (thickness: 6 cm) having the same design length and shape as the roof, properly reinforced with cross-beams of pressure-bent, galvanized steel, joined by riveting and without welding; the structure is properly perforated in order to allow air recirculation, as well as passage of the components of the electric installations, if needed.

  • The roof consists of a 10 cm thick, self-bearing sandwich panel, made up of an internal sheet of pre-painted, galvanized steel, 0.4 mm thick, and an external sheet of pre-painted, galvanized steel, 0.5 mm thick, shaped like curved tiles. The polyurethane insulation is inserted between the two sheets.
  • The total thickness of the roof is 15 cm.
  • This type of roof has a heat transfer coefficient of 0.18 W/m2K.
  • The inside of the roof can be lined with plasterboard sheets, which shall be subsequently grouted, levelled and painted.

THE ELECTRIC AND HYDRAULIC INSTALLATIONS ARE POSITIONED INSIDE THE WALLS PROPOSED BY US, SO NONE OF THEIR ELEMENTS IS “VISIBLE”.

Floors

THE FLOORS CAN BE CUSTOM-MADE, I.E. THEY CAN BE PROVIDED BY US OR PURCHASED DIRECTLY BY THE CUSTOMER.

THE TECNO-BUILD® CONSTRUCTION IS DELIVERED WITH A 24 MM THICK UNDERFLOOR STRUCTURE, CONSISTING OF BIRCH WOOD PANELS, COATED WITH 120 GM/M2 PHENOLIC FILM ON BOTH SIDES AND PROTECTED ON EDGES WITH NON-HYGROSCOPIC PAINT.

THE UNDERFLOOR STRUCTURE COVERS 100% OF THE INTERNAL SURFACE OF THE CONSTRUCTION; IT IS SCREWED DIRECTLY TO THE 15 CM HIGH CROSS-BEAMS OF PRESSURE-BENT, GALVANIZED STEEL, WHICH ARE DIMENSIONED ACCORDING TO THE DESIGN AND ANCHORED TO THE PERIMETER SECTIONS OF THE BASE STRUCTURE BY MEANS OF BOLTS AND SELF-LOCKING NUTS. THESE CROSS-BEAMS ARE PERFORATED AS WELL, IN ORDER TO ALLOW PASSAGE OF THE UNDERFLOOR INSTALLATIONS.

THE UNDERFLOOR STRUCTURE HAS A DOUBLE FUNCTION:

  • Supporting any kind of glued and non-glued floor.
  • Ensuring ventilation in the underlying, 15 cm thick air space.

Transportation

ALL COMPONENTS OF THE TECNO-BUILD® BUILDING SYSTEM ARE DESIGNED WITH A LENGTH OF MAX. 3 M AND A WEIGHT OF MAX 25 KG; THEY ARE PACKED AND DISPATCHED IN BOXES OF WOOD, WHICH ARE DIMENSIONED TO OPTIMIZE LOADING INTO CONTAINERS.

UPON ARRIVAL AT THE WORKSITE, NO MACHINES ARE NEEDED TO UNLOAD AND HANDLE THE MATERIALS, SINCE THE SINGLE PARTS CONTAINED IN THE BOXES CAN BE TRANSPORTED MANUALLY.

No building site

NO “BUILDING SITE” IS REQUIRED WITH THE TECNO-BUILD® SYSTEM, SINCE:

  • No foundations or beds are needed, so there is no need for excavators, scrapers, concrete mixers and earth-moving machines in general.
  • Unloading and handling of the components can be performed manually, so no cranes, hoists, pulleys, etc. are needed.
  • All components of the TECNO-BUILD® system can be assembled using one kind of bolt, a monkey wrench and a ladder, so there is no need for special equipment and not even for water and electric power.

Simple and Quick Assembly

TO BUILD A TECNO-BUILD® STRUCTURE:

  • The components can be unloaded manually, since each single component has a length of max. 3 m and a weight of max. 25 kg.
  • No foundations or beds are needed.
  • There is no need for excavators, scrapers, concrete mixers and earth-moving machines in general.
  • There is no need for water and electric power.
  • All components can be assembled simply using one kind of bolt, one kind of nut, a monkey wrench, a screwdriver, self-boring screws and a ladder.
  • Assembling the components with each other is easy because they are designed to prevent wrong assembly.
  • Bad weather is not a problem, since no sealing or adhesive materials are needed to assemble the components, i.e. they can be installed also when it rains.

BASED ON THE ABOVE, BUILDING A TECNO-BUILD® STRUCTURE IS EASY, AS NO SPECIALIZED WORKFORCE IS REQUIRED, AND QUICK, WHICH RESULTS IN SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS IN TERMS OF BUILDING TIME.
